Sustainable Remediation
Green and sustainable remediation is a growing area of interest. Many different agencies, organizations, and entities are providing more and more information and resources on the subject. Below are just a few of examples.

Sustainable Remediation Forum (SuRF)
The Sustainable Remediation Forum (SURF) promotes the use of sustainable practices during implementation of remedial action activities with the objective of balancing economic viability, conservation of natural resources and biodiversity, and the enhancement of the quality of life in surrounding communities. SuRF has authored a groundbreaking white paper on sustainable remediation that has been published in a special edition of the Summer 2009.

US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Green Remediation
EPA's Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER) is working with private and public partners to foster the use of best management practices (BMPs) for green remediation at contaminated sites throughout the United States. OSWER is documenting the state of BMPs, identifying opportunities for improvement, establishing a community of BMP practitioners, and developing mechanisms and tools to help site cleanup and reuse stakeholders make informed decisions about "green cleanup" strategies. One key resource available from the US EPA is the EPA's technology primer Green Remediation: Incorporating Sustainable Environmental Practices into Remediation of Contaminated Sites. The primer outlines the principles of green remediation and describes opportunities to reduce the footprint of cleanup activities throughout the life of a project.

Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC) Green and Sustainable Remediation (GSR) Team
The ITRC GSR team will facilitate discussion in the regulatory community advantages and disadvantages of sustainable and green remediation during remedy selection, implementation and post implementation phases. The GSR team will be producing a technical and regulatory document and training which will be free and available to the public.

Contaminated Land: Applications In Real Environments (CL:AIRE)
CL:AIRE is an independent, not-for-profit organization, established to stimulate the regeneration of contaminated land in the UK by raising awareness of, and confidence in, practical sustainable remediation technologies.

Network for Industrially Contaminated Land In Europe (NICOLE)
NICOLE is a leading forum on contaminated land management in Europe, promoting co-operation between industry, academia and service providers on the development and application of sustainable technologies. NICOLE's objectives are to: Provide a European forum for the dissemination and exchange of knowledge and ideas about contaminated land arising from industrial and commercial activities; Identify research needs and promote collaborative research that will enable European industry to identify, assess and manage contaminated sites more efficiently and cost-effectively; and Collaborate with other international networks inside and outside Europe and encompass the views of a wide a range of interest groups and stakeholders (for example, land developers, local/regional regulators and the insurance/financial investment community).
