US Air Force
PBM guidance is now available from the US Air Force through AFCEE. In addition, AFCEE, working with the Air Staff (ILEVR) is currently engaged in activities at various Air Force bases, working with installation, R-PMO, regional environmental office, state and regional regulators, and other stakeholders, in promoting the implementation of PBM.

The Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEE) hosted the Innovative Environmental Management Procedures presentations and short courses as part of the AIChE 2006 Spring Meeting. During this three day event, attendees were provided with the latest tools available to support DoD's efforts in achieving site closure and property transfer. Contact the PBM POC for materials from this workshop.

The 2004 AFCEE Technology Transfer Workshop, 16 - 19 August 2004, in San Antonio, TX, was centered on the concept of Performance-based Management. For more information regarding the Workshop, visit the Workshop web site.

In May 2006, AFCEE, in collaboration with the San Antonio Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), hosted a PBM Workshop. The materials from this workshop are available online and include the following materials: US EPA
Classroom - In partnership with the ITRC, TIO provides a range of training information to EPA, other federal agency, state, tribal, and local staff involved in hazardous waste management and remediation. The site includes training schedules for deliveries of many courses, both classroom and Internet-based. Training Coordinators, On-Scene Coordinators (OSC), Remedial Project Managers (RPM), Permit Writers, Corrective Action Managers, Site Assessment Managers (SAM), enforcement staff, Community Involvement Coordinators (CIC), state program managers, and others will find training courses and information directly targeted to their needs.

Internet seminars - CLU-IN's ongoing series of Internet Seminars are webbased slide presentations with a companion audio portion. TIO provides two options for accessing the audio portion of the seminar, by phone line or streaming audio simulcast. More information and registration for all Internet Seminars is available by selecting the individual seminar listed on the site.

Interstate Technical Regulatory Council (ITRC)
The ITRC has agreed to provide training and technical support during the implementation of this PBM initiative. ITRC recently published the Remediation Process Optimization: Identifying Opportunities for Enhanced and More Efficient Site Remediation (RPO-1) (September 2004), and is in the process of updating the document to include Performance-Based Management principles. ITRC will be hosting an internet PBM course on 25 January 2007.

ITRC recently published the Technology Overview Document: Performance Based Management; Fifth in a Series of Remediation Process Optimization Advanced Topics. It also recently published the Technology Overview Document: Exit Strategy - Seeing the Forest Beyond the Trees; Second in a Series of Remediation Process Optimization Advanced Topics.

US Navy
The US Navy, through their Remediation Innovative Technology Seminar (RITS), has made several materials available discussing optimization guidance and policy/site closeout guidance, conceptual site models, technology optimization, and monitoring and optimization tools. Below are several presentations given at the RITS in Spring 2004.

Part 1: Overview Optimization Guidance and Policy/Site Closeout Guidance
Part 2: Conceptual Site Models
Part 3: Technology Optimization
Part 4: Monitoring and Optimization Tools

The US Navy, through the Naval Facilities Engineering Service Center (NFESC) has also written their own Guide to Optimal Groundwater Monitoring (January 2000) and Guidance for Optimizing Remedial Action Operation (RAO) (April 2001), as well as establishing their own Policy for Optimizing Remedial and Removal Actions (Apr 2004).
