Components
The US Air Force PBM program draws upon important concepts used by the DOD, the US EPA, and other federal agencies to accelerate the PBM process. These include the following:

* Applicable or relevant and appropriate requirements (ARAR)
** Conceptual Site Model (CSM) |
- Creating a functional restoration (EXPERT) team and promoting open communication.
- Evaluating the understanding of the problem and accuracy of the conceptual site model (CSM)
- Developing/updating an exit strategy
- Determining the appropriateness of established Data Quality Objectives (DQOs) and Remedial Action Objectives (RAOs)
- Assessing the potential for the remedial design and/or remedial action to meet RAOs
- Establishing/reviewing the decision logic, and performance metrics or continuous assessment of Remedial Action Operations (RA-O) Long-term monitoring (LTM)
- Verifying the consistency of field and analytical procedures between DQOs and RAOs
- Providing user-friendly access to streamlined and standardized database(s) to archive and track systems performance
- Using results-based contracting to promote accelerated completion without compromising protectiveness
- Creating incentives that promote accelerated completion of tasks
- Assessing the impact of the remedial action on human health and the environment
