The Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) in the FY 1996 National Defense Authorization Act was built on a legacy of earlier military housing privatization efforts. At various times beginning with the return of military service members after World War II and the maintenance of a large peacetime military, through the present, the Air Force has sought private sector financing to assist it to meet its housing needs. The past experiences with housing privatization provided many lessons learned that were relied upon in developing the current MHPI program authorities, policies, and structure. Our goal is to provide information here that reflects those lessons and enables us to implement this MHPI program successfully and efficiently.
