History of DOD Regional Executive Agents |
- DoD established the Regional Executive Agents (REAs) on 11 July 1994
- The Military Departments were tasked to serve as RECs for the ten Federal Regions
- Army - Regions IV, V, VII, and VIII
- Navy - Regions I, III, and IX
- Air Force - Regions II, VI, and X
- RECs were appointed by the service secretaries for their assigned regions
- Each service also designated Regional Coordinators (RECs) for all ten regions (RECs may also serve as component RECs)
Responsibilities
- Maintain direct communication with environmental regulatory agencies and the services
- Work with the RECs to identify issues that need to be elevated to DoD
- Facilitate exchange of information among the services on a regional basis
- Promote consistency among the services in addressing new regional and state environmental regulations/initiatives
- Partner with the services and regulators to improve compliance
