Texas is a beautiful state and rich in diverse resources. Its population is booming and many parts of its economy are expanding. With population and industrial growth come a number of environmental challenges. Even as air quality in our major cities has improved in recent years, several communities continue to work towards meeting federal air quality standards. Water quality is also improving statewide thanks to efforts by cities, industries, and individuals. However, a number of lakes, rivers, and streams still need our help to meet federal standards for their intended uses--whether it's for swimming, fishing, or drinking. These efforts are even more important because water is becoming an increasingly limited resource. Currently, 287 public water supply systems in Texas impose voluntary or mandatory water-use restrictions to help conserve water.

To help in these efforts, the TCEQ is initiating Take Care of Texas -- a statewide campaign designed to involve all Texans in lifestyle and habit changes that will help improve air and water quality, conserve water and energy, reduce waste, and save individuals a little money in the process. This campaign raises awareness of how each of us can make our state a better place to live, work, and play.

Everyone's first step to Take Care of Texas is to learn about ways to get involved and find the necessary information. This web site includes a variety of materials that range from general information about environmental programs to specific, step-by-step instructions that address common environmental situations.
