AFCEE gets new director (October 26) The new director of the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment didn't have far to travel when he took the helm recently. Terry Edwards had been acting as AFCEE's civilian deputy director when Maj. Gen. Timothy Byers, Air Force Civil Engineer, made the announcement Oct. 21 he would replace Dennis Firman, who retired Oct. 1.
AFCEE implements innovative technology at Grissom ARB (October 21) The use of an innovative soil excavation approach at Grissom Air Reserve Base, Ind., as part of a larger environmental restoration effort, has resulted in significant cost and time savings for the Air Force.
Engineer helps secure Afghanistan's future (October 18) First Lt. Tiffany Lee VanDenBroeke, a deployed project engineer and contracting officer representative for the Air Force Center for Engineering and Environment, oversees construction projects that support the Afghan National Army and National Corps of Police.
Housing Privatization continues to achieve milestones (October 5) The Air Force Housing Privatization program continues to make significant progress in taking care of Airmen and their families. Working with private industry project owners, the Air Force has privatized 70 percent of the original Air Force housing inventory, effectively saving the Air Force $7 billion when compared to traditional military construction.
Robins, Dyess celebrate 10 years of housing privatization (October 5) September marked the 10-year anniversary for two of the first Air Force housing projects to become privatized: Robins Air Force Base, Ga., and Dyess Air Force Base, Texas. The projects are part of a wider Air Force housing privatization effort, with 26 projects achieving privatization since 1996 and another seven projects pending.
AFCEE director Dennis Firman retires (October 4) Director Dennis Firman of the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment retired Oct. 1 following 36 years of civil service. Maj. Gen. Timothy A. Byers, the Air Force Civil Engineer, presided over the ceremony, which was attended by a large crowd of family, friends and colleagues, including previous AFCEE directors J.B. Cole and Gary M. Erickson.
